Free on one line newspapers to end soon ?

I seldom buy newspapers and I confess that I rely on online version of the Star and the NST for my news.  Will these online newspapers be charging their readers anytime soon?

I read that Rupert Murdoch of the News Corp has announced said that his group of newspapers is looking at charging readers of their online newspapers. This is so because of dwindling circulation of their traditional newspapers and also declining revenue from advertisement. To survive online newspapers must be made to be profitable and this means charging the users . How to charge is being studied.

Among the newspapers which are charging their readers are the Wall Streets Journal and in Malaysia, Malaysiakini .com.

We would have to watch and see if our online newspapers will follow suit. Hopefully not for a long time to come.
