The 2nd Borneo International Trade Fair in Kota Kinabalu from Nov 13 to Nov 16 2009
The 2nd Borneo International Trade Fair (BITF) will held in KK from Nov 13 to Nov 16
BITF will display to the world at large that Sabah as the hub of the Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East Asia Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) is the most exciting growth area with wide ranging opportunities in tourism with its rich biodiversity, agriculture and a sizeable market. The economy, being young, has a lot of potential yet to be tapped.
“Our primary objective is to create awareness of the opportunities in the region and to facilitate business exchanges,” he said, adding that it was not only for trade alone but to evoke a high degree of social interest.
In explaining the theme, ‘Your ultimate destination for business, culture and nature,’ he said, “If you are looking for a place to do business, savour the exotic culture of the people and discover the secrets of Borneo, the BITF 2009 should be your ultimate destination.”
BITF 2009 has attracted foreign companies from the BIMP-EAGA region, China, Brunei, Taiwan, Thailand and other countries. Out of the total 212 booths, 60 were taken up by foreign enterprises. With such a response, the organizing committee expects a greater sales volume to be generated.
Another objective of BITF 2009 is to increase the competitiveness of the SMEs in the region. It hopes to be a platform for stakeholders to interact and to unravel the business potential. At the same time, it is to foster strategic ideas and projects to tap into the opportunities of BIMP-EAGA corridors towards greater integration of the economies in the sub-region.
BITF 2009 will feature the Sabah state government’s ongoing efforts in the implementation of the Sabah Development Corridor (SDC) as a thrust to spur investments and developments in tourism, agriculture, logistic services and manufacturing.
About 1,500 foreign trade visitors have confirmed their participation in BITF 2009, he said.
